NHS Tayside sparked anger when it falsely claimed it had deleted a Dundee HIV patient’s historic medical records after bungling the handling of sensitive documents.
The resident, who is a witness to the UK infected blood inquiry, has been locked in a battle with the health board to obtain historical data going back decades. Having originally submitted a request for access to all records between the 1970s and 1990s, NHS Tayside said it held no information further back than 2011.
Then, having been approached as a potential witness to the UK infected blood inquiry, a lawyer asked the Ninewells patient if the health board could access records as far back as the 1970s.
That came as a huge surprise given Tayside’s previous assurances that records from this period had been disposed of.
