Patients cried “happy tears” as it was announced that a public inquiry will be held into Sam Eljamel, the disgraced brain surgeon, after a decade-long campaign for justice by his victims.
Humza Yousaf, the first minister, confirmed the decision in Holyrood on Thursday morning, telling MSPs it was a “deeply important issue”.
Eljamel worked at NHS Tayside from 1995, until he was suspended in 2013 after three months of “indirect supervision” as a result of warnings he was a “poor doctor”.
